Explorations in Printmaking

Instructor: Mr. Sam Beattie

June 14 - July 1

Before the internet, spreading a message meant using ink and paper. From Gutenberg's first printing press until today, artists have taken printmaking as their own and used it to get the word out. In this course we will explore the basic design principles of printmaking and experiment with traditional printmaking processes. Unlike other art mediums, printmaking has the power to create multiple copies (or prints!) of an artwork or design. How has this power been used by artists of the past? Can a poster, a t-shirt, or a pamphlet make a change? We will dive into the inky past of printmaking to find answers to these questions and maybe, if we’re lucky, discover the power of printmaking for today.
