Week of September 5 Parent Newsletter

This Week:

  • Curriculum Night | Thursday, September 8 at 6:00 PM at UCA 1.0 (South Park campus)

    • UCA approaches teaching and learning in a unique and intentional way. The purpose of Curriculum Night is to help you understand who is teaching your student, what your student is learning, and how your student is learning.

    • On Thursday, you will receive a schedule that mirrors your child’s daily schedule to guide your time. As a “class” with other parents, you will visit each of your student’s Module 1 classes, attend Office Hours (topic: What is Standards-Based Grading?), and select a “Student Choice Block” (Option 1: I’m not getting emails from UCA, Option 2: Meet & Greet with UCA Faculty, Option 3: I’m still confused about Standards-Based Grading.).

    • In follow-up to Curriculum Night, you will have the opportunity for personalized, sit-down conversations with your student’s teachers about how they are doing in each class during Student Learning Conferences on October 18th & 19th.

    • Please bring a digital or physical copy of our Academic Catalogue (available here & always on our website at weareuca.org/academics), and any questions you have! Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday! - Mrs. Bootsma

  • Picture Day | Friday, September 9

    • UCA Picture Day is this Friday during the school day. There is nothing special you need to do to prepare for Picture Day besides checking in with your student to make sure they are dressed/groomed sufficiently for how they want to be represented in the Yearbook. Further details about an optional purchase of your child’s photo will be communicated in the coming weeks.

  • Car Wash | Friday, September 9, After School

    • This Friday is the day! Please either get sponsors or come and support the wash! If you are picking up students after school, why not get your car washed while you wait?! Drive into the weekend with a clean car. We hope to see you there!! - Mrs. Veldboom

Next Week:

  • Sweets and Treats | Thursday, September 15 at 6:00 PM at SoHo Sweets (16129 South Park Ave, South Holland, IL).

    • Sweets and Treats is the evening version of Coffee & Chat for parents who work during the day/are unable to attend C&C — or just want more fellowship with other parents! It's a time to meet other parents and discuss anything on your mind about UCA. We’d love to see you there next Thursday!
